Terrace, is a small town nestled in the heart of British Columbia, Canada. A short 1 and half hour flight from Calgary, offering some incredible terrain to go and explore. A large portion of ski touring is accessed via a small ski resort. Shames.

While Shames is renowned for its excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding, it also offers a paradise for ski touring enthusiasts seeking a more adventurous and immersive mountain experience. Ski touring in Shames allows you to venture beyond the boundaries of the resort, exploring the untouched backcountry terrain and breathtaking alpine landscapes. With an average snowfall of over 500 inches per year, the resort boasts ample snowpack and excellent conditions for ski touring throughout the winter season. The Shames Ski Resort offers designated access points for ski touring, allowing you to exit the resort boundaries and explore the stunning surrounding mountains. The backcountry terrain ranges from mellow glades to challenging alpine bowls, catering to skiers and snowboarders of various skill levels.

After a rewarding day of ski touring, return to Shames Ski Resort to relax and unwind. The resort offers cozy accommodations, delightful dining options, and a friendly atmosphere where you can share stories of your mountain adventures with fellow snow enthusiasts.

ITINERARY

 

Pre-trip 

Join us the evening before your first day to get acquainted with the guide as well as have a briefing on what the next few days look like for ski touring objectives as well as the outlook for the weather and snowpack conditions. 

Day 1-5 

Every day will be a short 40-minute drive from Terrace, up to the Shames Mountain resort where you will be able to enjoy the skiing day by day. 

There is also the option of being able to enjoy a day out on the resort, although small, with 1 chair lift and a T-bar to the top, there is plenty of exciting skiing to rip.

 

Logistics

 

Guide : Guest Ratios

Guide to Guest ratios are 1:8 at maximum. Larger groups will often include a non-certified tail guide to assist at various locations throughout the week.

    • There are flights directly to Terrace from Calgary and Vancouver.

This depends on the accommodation that you book. There are plenty of supermarkets to stock up for a day's lunch.

  • Backpack - 35-45L is ideal depending on size of personal items
  • Sunglasses with full coverage (minimum CAT3 protection factor)

  • Small Multi Tool (optional)
  • Small Repair Kit specific to your boots and bindings
  • Headlamp + 2 Fresh sets of batteries

Clothing Systems

  • Wool or Synthetic base layers and underwear
  • Midweight Layers - Synthetic or Wool

  • Sun Hat (wide brim or ball cap style ok)
  • Softshell Pants (even better if they are a light color to reflect heat)
  • Softshell Jacket (same as above)
  • GoreTex Pants

  • Insulated Jacket (Down or Synthetic OK)
  • Large warm ski gloves - no mitts please
  • Lightweight dexterous ski gloves
  • Socks - wool or synthetic blend only, no cotton.
  • 1 Apres Ski outfit (could be light shorts and flip flops, cotton t-shirt, etc. lightweight is important)

 

Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance

WAIVER - Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement

Prior to booking you will be required to acknowledge that you have been provided a copy of our Waiver of Liability Agreement for your review. All participants, or their legal guardians wishing to participate on any Cloud Nine Programs, must acknowledge that they have been presented this document in advance of booking, have read it in its entirety, and understand the agreement being entered into by signing. While there is no obligation to enter into this agreement with us, it is a condition of our service provision.
