Leaders in Mountain Safety
A Decade Leading The Way.
The primary focus of the entire team at Cloud Nine is to ensure that you return healthy and safe at the end of your experiences with us. While risk in mountain environments can never be eliminated, our record working in some of the largest and most complicated mountain environments abroad speaks for itself. We are proud of a long-standing ability to prioritize your wellbeing, while taking nothing away from the quality of your experience.
IFMGA Certified
Internationally Certified Guides.
Mountain Guides at Cloud Nine have undergone a rigorous training and certification process requiring 8-10 years for completion in Canada, through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides or other National Member associations of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations. We are experts in mountain risk management, avalanche forecasting, weather analysis, and critical incident response.
Owning a company in the ski/tour industry for over 10 years I've met many of the top ski guides in the country. I can tell you right now that if there was an avalanche safety Olympics, most of the Cloud9 Guides would be part of Team Canada and bring home multiple gold medals for the country.
The online Zoom class was well thought out and planned with a lot of great examples and media to help us visualize the concepts. The field day logistics were well planned out for COVID and was eye opening after being put under the tutelage of Todd, a legendary chief from the industry who was somehow pulled out of early retirement by the owner to teach us AST1. The field day location was PERFECT to see every single feature that they talked about in class. Everything was explained to the most miniscule detail to help us understand the risk and make decisions based on what data we could see in the snow and environment around us.
I cannot recommend them more highly and for the price you cannot go wrong.

My AST 1 course experience with Cloud Nine Guides was exceptional. The online platform was seamless and programming flowed well. Online instruction was engaging and effective and access to well-experienced and proficient guides on field day was invaluable. I appreciated the serious care and attentiveness put towards CoVid-19 concerns and the size of the cohort groups on field day felt more than comfortable. It is clear that careful thought and intention goes into every aspect of planning, logistics, programming and field day decision-making. Very much look forward to booking with Cloud Nine Guides again this season.

Ten years ago I took my AST 1 course through Cloud Nine Guides. Since then I have done my AST 2 course, mountaineering courses, Ice climbing courses, Rock Climbing courses and a handful of personalized courses through C9G. They are AMAZING!
Mike and his crew of guides have taken me to new heights... doing things that I never thought I would be capable of doing. Through their very patient and professional approach of delivery over the years, I have been able to increase my skill level and my confidence in the back country. Whether we're in big terrain in the Alpine... or back country skiing... or rock climbing... or ice climbing, I have always felt safe and well taken care of.
