Mike Trehearne


Mike is an Internationally Certified IFMGA Mountain Guide, CAA Avalanche Operations Level 2 Avalanche Forecaster, and a Professional Level member of the Canadian Avalanche Association. He has a broad base of experience, having designed and built a variety of successful small group programs for our clients on 5 continents and at elevations of up to 7000m. He also designs many of the programs and trips Cloud Nine offers in Canada. In the role of overseeing the guiding programs, he provides support and mentorship to our Apprentice Guides as they provide their services to our guests. When not at work, the trips he's most proud these days are the one's with his daughter and favorite adventure buddy, Layla. She might be small, but she gets after it and keeping up is a full time job all by itself.







Simon Meis


Simon is an Internationally Certified (IFMGA) Mountain Guide. He has spent the last 20 years playing in the mountains. Simon's primary passion is climbing and he has travelled widely in pursuit of vertical adventure. Notable accomplishments include big wall first ascents in Pakistan and the Bugaboos as well as establishing numerous new routes near Canmore, his hometown, up to the grade of 5.14a.


He has climbed most of the classic Rockies waterfall ice test pieces over the years, however finds himself spending more and more time on skis, working as a heli-ski guide with Selkirk Tangiers Heli-Skiing in addition to our Ski Touring programs with Cloud Nine.  With extensive local knowledge in both the Rockies and British Columbia backcountry, he always finds a way to get his guests the good snow.



On down days he can be found with his sketch book or a canvas.  An accomplished artist, his passion for mountains and adventure comes through vividly in his artwork. Simon loves to share his passion and enthusiasm for the mountains with guests, whether it is sharing a classic climb or searching out a fresh line. His diverse background and calm, humble, demeanour make him an excellent teacher. 







Kyle Chartrand


ACMG Alpine guide and CAA Operations Level 2, Kyle has a wide range of experience and a deep appreciation and respect for the mountains.  He is a passionate skier and climber and spends a lot of time in the Canadian Rockies which he has called home for more than ten years.  His passion is infectious to whoever is lucky to spend time in the alpine with him. His patient and quiet nature make him a great teacher and guide. Kyle guides and instructs on all our alpine and mountaineering programs at Cloud Nine.

When not in his home of Golden, BC, Kyle spends time working as a Mountain Safety Operative in remote environments across the globe. He holds certifications as SPRAT 3, IRATA 2, and is a HETS Long line Rescue Professional.






Ian Jackson


Ian is an internationally certified ACMG/ IFMGA Mountain Guide living in Canmore, AB. He is a professional member of the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) and holds a CAA level 2 certification. Ian has been guiding since 2005 and enjoys taking people into exciting new terrain and teaching them how to move safely through the mountain environment. He has guided and climbed throughout North America as well as in Europe and South America. 
Ian guides and instructs select courses and trips for Cloud Nine Guides, as he's employed full-time by Parks Canada as a Visitor Safety Specialist for Banff, Yoho & Kootenay National Parks. This keeps him busy doing backcountry mountain rescues in the National Parks, as well as having an active role in writing the public avalanche bulletin and doing avalanche forecasting and control for the highways in Banff, Yoho & Kootenay during the winter season. His skills and training as a Visitor Safety Specialisty make him a valuable asset to all our guests on all their trips.








Benjamin Paradis


Ben is an ACMG Certified Apprentice Rock Guide, and takes the lead instructor role on our programs with our partners at the Calgary Climbing Centre, as well as our Day Rock Experience and Multi-Pitch Rock Programs.


After completing a Master’s in Political Economy and learning Mandarin in China he has returned to Canmore, to pursue IFMGA Certification.


With 12 years of climbing experience, Ben has experience in the Canadian Rockies, Bugaboos, and Selkirk Mountains. as well as the US, Mexico, Cuba and Morocco. He has worked in the climbing industry for 7 years and has shared his knowledge and passion with thousands of people and has taught hundreds of them how to climb.


Along with certification as an Apprentice Rock Guide, Ben also holds his Climbing Gym Instructor Level 2 (CGI2) from the ACMG.
