Gear & Equipment - The Haute Route Traverse

Equipment:

• Alpine Touring Skis, Telemark Skis or Splitboard (splitboarders please contact our office for suitability)
• Ski Poles
• Climbing Skins
• Avalanche Tranciever
• Avalanche Shovel
• Avalanche Probe
• Backpack ~ 40L.
• Harness (lightweight for glacier travel)
• Crampons (lightweight aluminum)
• 3 Locking Carabiners (preferably a triple action gate closure)
• 3 Non- Locking Carabiners
• 3 Cordalette, sewn slings or similar (minimum 10kn) x 5m or 2.5m sewn in loop

• Ski crampons

• Repair kit / spare parts for your bindings (optional)
Much of this equipment can be provided by local retailers, rental shops, or by us at Cloud Nine Guides prior to departure from our Canadian offices.
 

 

Clothing:

• Gore Tex Pants and Jacket
• Softshell Pants and Jacket
• Midweight Tops and Bottoms (~200g/m2)
• Lightweight Down Jacket (synthetic insulation is ok) 
• Base Layers - tops and bottoms
• 2 Pairs of gloves (lightweight and heavier weight)
• Buff Style Neck Tube
• Wool Blend Ski Socks
• Warm Hat
• Sun hat

 

Hut Wear:

• Spare underwear, socks
• Toiletries 
• Light-weight sleeping bag liner (preferably silk) - wool covers are provided by the hut
• Very lightweight runners
• Alpine Club card, if you are a member - usefull for discounts at the huts
• Ear plugs

 

Additional Items:

• Sun Glasses - CAT3 or CAT4 lenses are preferable for adequate protection on snow
• Sun screen and lip balm
• Goggles
• Water bottle 1L
• Head lamp + spare batteries
• Blister kit
• Snacks & Lunch Items
• Passport & Travel Insurance Documents
• Zip-lock bags
• Camera & Batteries
• Ski wax / skin wax (optional)
