Abbot Pass Alpine - 3 Days

Easily one of our most popular trips every summer. Our guests will spend

3 days climbing from the historic Abbott Pass Hut in one of the most popular
areas for Alpinism in Western Canada. Our objectives on this 3 day program
are the summits of both Mounts Victoria & Lefroy. Good conditions may allow
motivated guests to be able to add an ascent of Mount Huber to the trip as well.

The history of this beautiful corner of the mountains is as much a draw to these peaks as the climbing itself. The Pass and Hut were named after Phillip Abbott, whose fall from the upper slopes of Mount Lefroy in 1896, initiated a public outcry for the need to have professional guides in Canada. The CPR began to import the already famous Swiss Guides, and stationed them at Laggan in Lake Louise and Glacier House, near the Rogers Pass. The Swiss Guides conceived the idea of a hut at the pass to facilitate safer ascents of Mounts Victoria and Lefroy. Leading teams of mules up the infamous Death Trap, the guides built the same hut we visit today, the rock quarried from the pass itself.

Is This Trip For You?

This program requires an intermediate level of fitness. Full days, early starts, and climbing at or above 3000m can all be taxing both physically and mentally. Mount Lefroy is typically a much shorter ascent then Mounts Victoria and Huber, and less demanding overall.
