Cat Ski Tourng - Weekend Trip Logistics

Logistical information to help you prepare for a weekend of Cat Ski Touring with Cloud Nine Guides.

Trip Location and Base

The Cat Ski Touring Weekends are based in Revelstoke BC, while we ski and ride daily in the K3 Cat Ski tenure ~ 45min west of town. To access the area each day, we commute from Revelstoke to Craigellachie where we then leave the HWY 1 and begin an 11km trip up the North Fork, a logging road heading due north from the highway. This takes us to a staging area where we leave our vehicles behind and climb on board the snowcats. The ascent in the snowcats takes approximately 20min.

Accommodation is not included in the cost of the weekend, and guests are responsible for booking their own stay in a local hotel or bed and breakfast. We suggest making a reservation for Friday and Saturday nights at a minimum. It may also be more comfortable to stay in Revelstoke on Sunday night as well to allow for a well rested commute home in the daylight on Monday.

Because we are based in Revelstoke, we leave it to you to decide which restaurants and cafes you prefer for breakfast and dinner. There are a number of well stocked grocery stores in Revelstoke in which to purchase lunch items for the day. If you would like your lunch ready when you arrive each day we will provide it at a cost of $18.00/person. You may opt in for this when you making you're booking through our online booking system.

Meeting Time and Locations

If you are available and able to make it, we generally have a team dinner together on Friday night at 8:00pm PST, once everyone has arrived in Revelstoke. This is a chance to pop in, say hello and to meet your guide(s) for the weekend and also the other guests you'll be skiing and riding with for the weekend. It also gives you the chance to clear up any questions about gear, logistics or the itinerary in a more casual setting. Saturday morning we meet early. Meeting locations vary from trip to trip and will be provided to you immediately ahead of your arrival in Revelstoke. Regardless of the location, we will meet a 6:00am sharp on Saturday morning to distribute waivers. Maintaining timings is crucial, as we need our program needs to stay ahead of the daily cat-skiing programs at K3. Due to these time constraints we will not be able to wait for late arriving guests. We will depart Revelstoke at 6:45am, sharp. You can expect to return to Revelstoke at the end of each day around 6:00pm.

Having a good 4x4 vehicle equipped with winter tires (not all season tires), and good clearance may be required for access up the North Fork Logging Road. Cars and small vehicles will not make it. Generally it will be feasible to carpool with your fellow guests, though this will need to be arranged ahead of time. On select weekends Cloud Nine Guides will have vehicles available for transportation from Revelstoke to our staging with the Snowcats. This transportation service will be available at a rate of $20/person/day.

Alternate Objectives / Locations Due to Weather or Road Closures

It is possible that during the course of your weekend that a highway closure may not allow passage to K3's Tenure from Revelstoke. If this is the case, we will often defer to one of the following:

  • The Gorge - A ski touring venue immediately adjacent to the K3 CatSki Tenure and accessible via a different logging road access point.
  • Lift Accessed Ski Touring at RMR - Revelstoke Mountain Resort has suitable slackcountry terrain accessible from the lifts to give us a day of good riding and terrain immediately adjacent to the ski hill.
  • Rogers Pass - A world class venue for Ski Touring and Splitboarding. Conditions permitting we'll aim to complete one of the more classic tours as opposed to a day of short laps or yo-yo riding.
