The Big Beautiful Bugaboos - Trip Report

I've spent about the last 2 weeks now playing and guiding in the Bugaboos. Despite being the busiest summer we've had at Cloud Nine, and being one of the busiest weeks in general during the year, my wife Lara and I took the last week of July off for a little vacation. The following week I did a quick return to Canmore for a couple days to dry out and re-supply, and then met up with our guests for the week, Ben and Dom. For the second week we did our best to dodge the weather and get as much climbing done in the typically unstable weather that is the Bugs.

Cloud Nine Guides Partner Up With Alpine Threadworks

We're super psyched to have recently partnered up with Alpine Threadworks as Ambassadors and Product Testers for their lines of custom sewn mountain products. Clean, Functional and Durable has long been what our Guides look for in their packs and we're pumped to be able to work with the owner and chief designer, Neil Warren, on a line up of products you'll be seeing us put through their paces on our future programs. Mount Sir Donald With Ms. J Ormsbee

Jen Ormsbee and I had originally planned to attempt a big mixed alpine route just north of the Icefields Centre. Humble Horse on Mount Diadem would have been a great bet if it wasn't for the crazy hot temperatures we've had the last week or so, but avalanche and rockfall hazard would have been too much of a hazard to be reasonable and we needed an alternate venue.

Mount Athabasca For The 1st Time

Over the Canada Day Long weekend we guided a 3 Day Intro to Mountaineering Program at the Columbia Icefields for a great crew all originally from the Drayton Valley area. Mike, Kara, Steve and Breann were 1st timers to the world of summer mountaineering and were kind enough to hire us for a few days to show them the ropes.
